Rooted Privacy Policy
Rooted helps users block distracting apps and replace scrolling with time in scripture. This policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used.
Last updated: May 25, 2026
This page applies only to Rooted. Rooted is a standalone app and is separate from other services you may access through this website.
Information Rooted Handles
Rooted may store your onboarding responses, including scripture-reading habits, estimated daily screen time, age range, block duration preferences, emotional well-being score, spiritual well-being score, and whether you feel ready to change your screen habits.
Rooted stores app-blocking choices, block schedules, pause or break state, streaks, completion history, subscription trial state, and other settings needed to run the app.
Rooted may store scripture recommendations that were shown to you so future recommendations can avoid unnecessary repetition.
Screen Time and App Blocking
Rooted uses Apple Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity APIs to let you select apps, block distractions, and view Screen Time reports.
Apple restricts access to raw Screen Time details. Rooted does not receive raw per-app or per-day Screen Time numbers in the main app. Screen Time charts and totals are rendered through Apple Device Activity report extension APIs.
Your selected apps and block schedules are used to apply and remove device restrictions on your device.
Scripture Recommendations
Rooted may send limited request data to a scripture recommendation service to generate a personalized scripture passage. This request can include requested passage length, emotional well-being label, spiritual well-being label, and recent scripture recommendation history.
Rooted does not need your name, email address, contacts, photos, or precise location to request a scripture recommendation.
If the recommendation service is unavailable, Rooted may show a fallback scripture passage.
Speech and Recitation
Rooted may request microphone and speech recognition access when a scripture recitation feature is used.
Speech-related permissions are controlled by iOS. You can grant or revoke these permissions in the Settings app.
Notifications
Rooted may request notification permission to support reminders and app-flow updates.
Notifications are optional. You can disable them at any time in iOS Settings.
Purchases and Subscriptions
Rooted uses Apple StoreKit for subscriptions, trials, purchases, renewals, and entitlement checks.
Payment information is handled by Apple. Rooted does not receive or store your credit card number.
How Information Is Stored
Most Rooted app data is stored locally on your device using iOS storage such as UserDefaults and App Group storage shared with Rooted extensions.
Rooted uses extension storage so its app-blocking, break, and Screen Time report features can work even when the main app is not open.
Deleting the app may remove locally stored app data, subject to normal iOS behavior and any Apple account or subscription records maintained by Apple.
How Information Is Used
Rooted uses information to operate app blocking, show progress, personalize scripture recommendations, manage free trials and subscriptions, render Screen Time reports, and improve the in-app experience.
Rooted does not sell your personal information.
Rooted does not use your information to advertise unrelated services.
Third-Party Services
Rooted relies on Apple services and frameworks, including Screen Time APIs, Family Controls, Device Activity, notifications, speech recognition, and StoreKit.
Rooted also uses a scripture recommendation service endpoint to generate or retrieve scripture recommendations when that feature is requested.
These services may process information according to their own privacy practices and legal requirements.
Your Choices
You can revoke Screen Time, notification, microphone, and speech recognition permissions in iOS Settings.
You can manage subscriptions through your Apple ID subscription settings.
You can stop using Rooted or delete the app if you no longer want the app to store local Rooted data on your device.
Children and Families
Rooted is designed around individual intentional phone use and scripture habits. The app uses Apple permission flows that may behave differently on devices managed by a parent, guardian, school, employer, or mobile device management profile.
If a device is restricted by parental controls or management software, some Rooted permissions or features may be unavailable.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated as Rooted changes. When updates are made, the Last updated date on this page will be revised.
Continued use of Rooted after an update means the updated policy applies to your use of the app.
